Brookfield Renewable is an experienced developer, owner and operator of renewable power facilities, including six hydropower facilities in the Katahdin region.
Brookfield Renewable creates value by developing innovative, natural power solutions that accelerate the world towards a carbon-free future, providing clean and reliable power to 519,00+ households and businesses in Maine.
Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC) has completed a six-month trial of its modular RivGen hydro-electric system in Millinocket Stream at the One North site. They have recently added a second unit. The combined system is undergoing further testing.
ORPC’s RivGen® Power System generates emission-free electricity from river currents and connects directly into existing remote community grids using smart grid technology. It consists of three major subsystems: shore-side power electronics, mooring system, and turbine generator (TGU) device.
In late 2022, Greenbacker Renewable Energy Company LLC broke ground on a 5 MW solar farm on the One North site. The project is scheduled to be commissioned in summer 2024. The One North site has over 1,000 acres in the greenfield alone, allowing for significant long-term opportunities for additional solar development as needs at the site arise.
Combined Heat & Power
Our Katahdin has received a FY2023 $2.5mm Congressionally Directed Spending request to spur development of a Combined Heat & Power facility in the One North Innovation Campus with the support of Senator Collins and Senator King. Peregrine Turbine Technologies, of Wiscasset, Maine is partnering with Our Katahdin on the project. The project will serve as a bio-mass demonstrator unit for Peregrine’s patented supercritical CO2 turbine technology and provide district heating to the Innovation Campus.
